Virology Journal

Written by admin on Apr 4th, 2008 | Filed under: Microbiology

Virology Journal is an Open Access, peer-reviewed, online journal that presents high-quality original research concerning viruses, and establishes a strategic alternative to the traditional virology communication process.
Virology Journal
will feature articles on human, animal, plant, insect, bacterial, and fungal viruses. The journal will also publish articles on molecular aspects of the control and prevention of viral infections with vaccines and antiviral agents and on the use of viruses as gene therapy vectors. The approaches and techniques used are expected to encompass many disciplines, including molecular genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, structural biology, cell biology, immunology, morphology, genetics and pathogenesis.
The outbreaks of SARS coronavirus, West Nile virus, and monkeypox virus are but a few recent examples of the urgent need for a rapid forum for communications among virologists. Virology Journal will meet the rapid communication needs in virology. We will also provide article links to an extensive database of virology information through our “All the Virology” (ATV) web site (www.virology.net).

Retrovirology

Written by admin on Apr 1st, 2008 | Filed under: Microbiology

Retrovirology is an Open Access, online journal that publishes stringently peer-reviewed, high-impact articles on basic retrovirus research.
Retroviruses are pleiotropically found in animals. Well-described examples include avian, murine and primate retroviruses. Two human retroviruses are especially important pathogens. These are the human immunodeficiency virus, HIV, and the human T-cell leukemia virus, HTLV. HIV causes AIDS while HTLV-I is the etiological agent for adult T-cell leukemia. There is a large amount of basic research being conducted on HIV and HTLV-I spanning gene expression, virus structure-assembly, integration, replication, and pathogenesis. Retrovirology intends to cover these areas of human and animal retrovirus research.
In any given issue of an extant print virology journal, research papers on retroviruses, especially primate retroviruses, make up the largest subcategory of manuscripts. Retroviruses are responsible for many kinds of medically important pathologies including immunodeficiencies and cancers. Hence, there is a large publication demand and a significant research interest for an Open Access journal, which emphasizes basic retrovirus research. The Open Access format is ideally suited for communicating cutting edge information to a large audience quickly.

Parasites & Vectors

Written by admin on Mar 25th, 2008 | Filed under: Microbiology

Parasites & Vectors is an open access, peer-reviewed online journal dealing with the biology of parasites, parasitic diseases, intermediate hosts and vectors. Manuscripts published in this journal will be available to all worldwide, with no barriers to access, immediately following acceptance. However, authors retain the copyright of their material and may use it, or distribute it, as they wish.
Manuscripts on all aspects of the basic and applied biology of parasites, intermediate hosts and vectors will be considered. In addition to the traditional and well-established areas of science in these fields, we also aim to provide a vehicle for publication of the rapidly developing resources and technology in parasite, intermediate host and vector genomics and their impacts on biological research. We are able to publish large datasets and extensive results, frequently associated with genomic and post-genomic technologies, which are not readily accommodated in traditional journals. Manuscripts addressing broader issues, for example economics, social sciences and global climate change in relation to parasites, vectors and disease control, are also welcomed.
The scope of Parasites & Vectors expands on two former BioMed Central publications – Filaria Journal and Kinetoplastid Biology and Disease, and authors working in these areas are encouraged to submit their work to this new journal. Links to the Archives of Filaria Journal and Kinetoplastid Biology and Disease may be found on the Parasites & Vectors Home Page.

The electronic format of the journal offers interesting opportunities for authors. For example, in addition to the publication of large datasets, derived from field and laboratory studies, there is no limit to the number of colour illustrations that can be included. Animations, slide shows and movie clips are acceptable, as also are links to relevant material on other websites. No additional charge will be made for these.
