Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology

Written by admin on Mar 29th, 2008 | Filed under: Endocrinology, Reproduction

Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology (RB&E) is an Open Access, peer-reviewed, online journal aiming for the wide distribution of results from excellent research in the reproductive sciences. RB&E represents a global platform for reproductive and developmental biologists, reproductive endocrinologists, immunologists, theriogenologists, infertility specialists, obstetricians, gynecologists, andrologists, urogynecologists, specialists in menopause, reproductive tract oncologists, and reproductive epidemiologists.
The journal scope covers gametogenesis, fertilization, early embryonic development, embryo-uterus interaction, reproductive development, pregnancy, uterine biology, endocrinology of reproduction, control of reproduction, reproductive immunology, neuroendocrinology, and veterinary and human reproductive medicine (except Case Reports). All vertebrate species are covered.
RB&E
also covers clinical subjects such as the pathophysiology of reproduction (e.g. sterility, infertility and abnormal pregnancy, and reproductive tract infections), age-associated changes and disorders of the reproductive tract (e.g. peri- and postmenopausal periods, urinary incontinence and other pelvic floor disorders, impact of hormone replacement therapy), reproductive tissue cancers (e.g. prostate, ovary, uterus, cervix, breast), and the impact of environmental and occupational hazards on reproduction.

Cardiovascular Diabetology

Written by admin on Mar 9th, 2008 | Filed under: Cardivascular, Endocrinology

Cardiovascular Diabetology is an open access, peer-reviewed, online journal that considers manuscripts on all aspects of the diabetes/cardiovascular interrelationship and the dysmetabolic syndrome; this includes genetic, experimental, clinical, pharmacological, epidemiological, molecular biology and laboratory research.

Cardiovascular Diabetology aims to provide an address for all types of scientific communications related to the diabetes/cardiovascular interrelationship and the dysmetabolic syndrome. The impressive correlation between coronary artery disease and alterations in glucose metabolism has raised the likelihood that atherosclerosis and type 2 diabetes may share common antecedents. Large-vessel atherosclerosis can precede the development of diabetes, suggesting that rather than atherosclerosis being a complication of diabetes, both conditions may share genetic and environmental antecedents, a “common soil”. Insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia lead to the development of the dysmetabolic syndrome, consisting of abdominal obesity, impaired fasting glucose, high triglyceride levels, low high-density lipoprotein levels and hypertension. Taking into consideration that this cluster of abnormalities is shared by both diabetes type 2 and atherosclerosis, the American Heart Association stated in 1999 that “diabetes is a cardiovascular disease”.

The worldwide prevalence of the dysmetabolic syndrome and diabetes mellitus - especially type 2, which makes up about 90% of the diabetic population - has continuously and rapidly increased during the last decades. The number of diabetic individuals is to double within 30 years, reaching 300 million in the year 2025. Premature atherosclerosis contributes to 75% of deaths among individuals with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Moreover, 25% of patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes already have coronary artery disease. Diabetes mellitus has become a diagnosis of considerable and ominous importance in cardiovascular medicine, related to numerous hospital readmissions and high mortality and morbidity. Despite considerable improvements in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, there is alarming evidence that patients with diabetes have hardly experienced any advantages from recent therapeutic achievements compared with their non-diabetic counterparts. Thus, a journal specifically dedicated to these issues is essential.

The American Journal of Physiology - Endocrinology and Metabolism

Written by admin on Nov 2nd, 2007 | Filed under: Endocrinology

The American Journal of Physiology - Endocrinology and Metabolism publishes results of original studies about endocrine and metabolic systems on any level of organization. Molecular, subcellular, and cellular studies in whole animals or humans will be considered. Specific themes include mechanisms of hormone and growth factor action; hormonal or metabolite control of organic and inorganic metabolism; paracrine and autocrine control of endocrine cell performance; activation of gene expression; function and activation of hormone receptors; endocrine or metabolic control of ion channels and membrane function; differentiation of endocrine and reproductive cell function; temporal analysis of hormone secretion and metabolism; and mathematical modeling and kinetic analysis of hormone action or metabolism. Novel molecular, immunological, magnetic resonance, or electrophysiological studies of hormone action or receptor activation are also welcome.
