Theoretical Biology and Medical Modelling (TBiomed)

Written by admin on Apr 2nd, 2008 | Filed under: Biology

Theoretical Biology and Medical Modelling (TBiomed) is an Open Access, peer-reviewed, online journal adopting a broad definition of “biology” and focusing on the theoretical ideas and models to which advances in biology and medicine are giving rise. Mathematicians, biologists and clinicians of various specialisms, philosophers and historians of science are all contributing to the emergence of novel concepts in an age of systems biology and bioinformatics. This is the field in which TBioMed operates.
Manuscripts submitted to conventional theoretical journals experience long delays before they are refereed. Reviewers do not usually see the articles as topical and requiring urgent publication, but TBioMed adopts the opposite view. Theoretical issues have become as topical as any other research activity, and authors require a quick turn-around time.
The online nature of TBioMed not only facilitates rapid peer review but also provides an excellent medium for communication in theoretical work. Comments from reviewers and other interested readers can be posted online to encourage debate.

Source Code for Biology and Medicine

Written by admin on Apr 2nd, 2008 | Filed under: Biology

Source Code for Biology and Medicine is a peer-reviewed open access, online journal that publishes articles on source code employed over a wide range of applications in biology and medicine.
The journal’s aim is to publish source code for distribution and use in the public domain in order to advance biological and medical research. Through this dissemination, it may be possible to shorten the time required for solving certain computational problems for which there is limited source code availability or resources.

Fundamentally, the overarching computation-related goals of the journal are to:

  • Increase productivity among source code users working on problems of public and environmental health importance
  • Reduce discovery times in molecular and genomic sciences
  • Reduce search times for source code applied in biological and medical research
  • Provide a historical reflection of source code applied in various fields
  • Serve as a repository for source code
