Gonorrhea is one of most common sexually transmitted disease (STD). One should aware about this disease since its rates of infected people are increasing every year. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) there are at least 800,000 reported cases per year, it means that 91 people get infected per hour. Further survey shows that the rate among women was 105.5 cases per 100,000 populations compared to a rate of 91.9 among men. As you can see, women have a bigger chance to be infected by Gonorrhea. This issue should be our concern to reduce the disease spreading especially for women.
Gonorrhea is an STD; thus the spreading is throughout sexual contact. It is also transmitted from a mother to her newborn during delivery. According to the latest survey, Gonorrhea is more common in metropolitan cities where social value is less restricted.

Many people who got infected with Gonorrhea also diagnosed with other STD, in this case it is Chlamydia. So, commonly the treatment is conducted simultaneously. The gonorrhea in women, if it is not treated properly may harm women health and spread to different organs of the body that are distant from the reproductive organs trough blood circulation. This can lead to tenderness in the joints, the bones, the skin, heart, tendons, or even the area around the liver. If this condition stays occur for months without the specific medical treatment, it may damage women reproductive and above organs.

It is important for infected people to diagnose earlier for a better chance to get cured. The symptoms are usually occurring in 2-10 days after exposure to the bacteria. However, some people who got infected often go unnoticed. This is also making the spreading is much faster because their sexual partner is not realizing the symptoms. If symptoms do occur, they usually show 2-10 days after exposure to the bacteria. For some, the symptoms are very mild that they often go unnoticed. The following are the symptoms of gonorrhea in women:
- Greening yellow discharge from the vagina
- Pelvic pain
- Itching or burning sensation around genitalia in passing the urine
- Bleeding between periods
- Painful sexual interaction
- Vulva gets swollen
If the disease is still uncured, it can lead to conjunctivitis or eye infection, in the worst condition, one loss his sight. Gonorrhea in women makes the cervix in pain, and it is mainly the common site of illness that may expand to the ovaries and fallopian tubes, and then lead to pelvic inflammatory disease; which is possible causing sterility.


It is also common that the infection occur in the throat or mouth which is transmitted when oral sex occurred. The infected person will feel a burning sensation, fever and swollen glands in the throat.
Combination of antibiotics is used as Gonorrhea treatment. The infected individual must not have sexual activity until the diseases is cured to prevent spreading the disease. For high risk person, it is better going to STD clinic for periodically check to determining accurately of the Gonorrhea infection.
